About Christine Palethorpe:

As a Nottingham based harpist I am currently performing across the East Midlands providing warm and atmospheric background music at weddings, functions and events. My selection of music encompasses traditional, popular, jazz standards, classical and film soundtracks in a flowing and romantic style, played either on my lap harp or larger floor harp. These pieces are often arranged by myself to sound at their best on my instrument and I am happy to arrange requests; almost anything is possible!

Both of my harps are cross-strung; a rare type of harp which I was drawn to as a pianist because they allow the same possibilities as the piano without the use of levers or pedals mid-song to change pitch. This also makes arranging music that might seem unusual to the harp a lot more natural, resulting in a unique and varied repertoire.

Whilst the full size harp creates a rich and elegant sound and makes a grand statement at any event the lap harp has a bright, sweet tone and is suitable in a variety of settings, in part due to its convenient size.

Originally a pianist, I was always entranced by the harp and finally got my hands on one whilst studying a Bmus at the University of Surrey. I now flit between the two instruments (literally in the case of my covers duo, Paper Doves). I can also sometimes be found busking with my little harp around various parts of Nottingham.
