Thrilling ‘Arias’ for Oxfam
On the run up to Oxjam Beeston Takeover this Saturday there was still time to show that Oxjam hasn't forgotten those with a taste for the classical, with its seventh ’classical’ concert at Beeston Parish Church on 12th October. The second ‘Operatic Arias’ once again featured members of operatic quartet Il Bel Quattro, guest soprano Naomi Quant and the Oxjam Chamber Orchestra conducted by Richard Laing.
A packed church was treated to an evening of mainly familiar pieces, ranging from Mozart to Gilbert and Sullivan, all beautifully sung. There were quartets, quintets, solos and duets from members of IBQ. Soprano parts were shared between original member Rachel King, returning from maternity leave, and Eleanor Shaw; Sarah May May Morris (mezzo-soprano), Colin Reed (tenor) and Geoff Harbach (bass/baritone) completed the line-up.
The forty-piece orchestra, drawn from a range of local groups, had been expertly brought together by conductor Richard Laing and gave an excellent performance.
It was a wonderful eveing of superb music, thanks to the talent, skill, commitment and hard work of all the musicians. A huge thank you also to Geoff Harbach and his team for organising the event, supported by the Oxjam Beeston Team. Several hundred pounds were raised to boost this year's fundraising total.
