On Sunday 23rd June we held a Oxjam garden party . The Unreliables opened the afternoon and lit up the audience, it was fantastic . Following , after a break of delicious cakes and drinks , came the QM Barbershop Quartet who not only sang to us but also explained how a barbershop quartet is made up from the individual voices , it was fascinating .
We raised £340 . Thank to all our audience , cake makers and not forgetting the wonderful singers for making the day a great success .
Our latest house concert was more of a garden party with Goose McCoy playing in the lovely garden at 16 Devonshire Ave. The sun stayed out and we raised just north of £100 for Oxjam.
What a special and sublime afternoon we were privileged to host in our front room on St Patrick's Day!
Local pianist Edwina Crowder took us on a journey as she performed her innovative and reflective arrangements of traditional tunes written by 17th century Irish composer and itinerant harper Turlough O'Carolan.
Friends enjoyed Irish themed refreshments in the break (it turns out that Sainsbury's have a dedicated Irish section selling goodies all year round in their Castle Marina store) and settled down for Edwina's second half where the theme of journeys continued with pieces from other composers reflecting modern music in the classical style with a folk/jazz feel - plus a little poetry thrown into the mix too!
We are grateful to Edwina for her creativity and hard work in putting this outstanding performance together, and also to friends who helped by providing photographic skills, chairs, gluten free goodies, special Irish cheeses, and emergency supplies of soda bread, as well as bringing warmth and community into our home.
We are delighted to have raised £226 for Oxfam :) .

Thanks go to local musician and Oxjam supporter Geoff who managed to squeeze 19 friends into his lounge for a fantastic house gig featuring Tilly Greentree and Steven Lai (plus an impromptu after show jam from Geoff and various members of the audience) , raising £109 in donations all for Oxfam.

Big thanks all round to everyone involved in this awesome fundraising effort.
As you can see from this video we had a rather special afternoon in our lounge in January, when Phil Langran and his band played their first ever shoeless gig.
They lulled us with some beautiful harmonies and had us tapping our (also shoeless) feet to some upbeat folksongs. If only there had been enough room to dance, I'm sure we would have been jigging and reeling long into the evening.
We enjoyed a feast of treats during a well-deserved break and managed to raise an impressive £158 for Oxfam.
Thank you to all our friends for supporting the event, and thank you to Phil, Steve, Mark, Frank and Alistair for such top-notch entertainment.
Classical Oxjam was an amazing evening and so special to hear the phenomenal talents of Matthew Clemmett and George Bird, young protégés of Marion Boden, in the church where her funeral had taken place just the day before. Her warmth, vitality and talents were inspirational to so many, young and not so young. It was an honour to see her sing in the Methodist Church on Takeover Day, as sparkling as ever, just two weeks before she passed away.
Classical Oxjam takes place at Beeston Parish Church TODAY at 7pm. Sublime music for a great cause. Make sure you… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
